Well the game’s beat, on Normal at least.
Last fight took two attempts, with the 2nd one involving a bit more running away and switching out a skill or two. Still had a less than optimal spec but managed fine.
Hoping that the next difficulty will present a lot more of a challenge to be honest
WD is now around 33, going to give up to Skeleton King a run tonight on him to see how much harder it is, then maybe do some co-op
Finished up Act 1 last night, had a couple of deaths on the Butcher while I worked out the mechanics of the fight (and realised that the healing wells respawned). Have to say I’m not super keen on the aesthetic of the Act2 early areas but the challenge certainly ramps up a nice little bit.
I had a few more deaths while playing around with new spells\skills but finally settled on this tactic for most groups of mobs
open up with couple of Haunts (consuming spirit rune for life leech) on random mobs
once surrounded Soul Harvest (runed with swallow your soul for the mana gain)
Grasp of the Dead (eels rune for more damage) to keep people in the same place and get the dots ticking
chuck some exploding toads or a big old spider queen down to get the damage really ticking
This usually is enough to blaze through most packs regardless of what’s in there. Making sure to Spirit Barrage & Haunt anything that stays at range.
If it’s just a couple of mobs I’ll haunt and spirit barrage them (with toads for good measure once they come close) and Grasp of the Dead in the path of any other groups in view on the screen to slow them down and get them weakened.
I really want to get Spirit Walk in the mix but until the next slot opens up I just don’t know what I’d want to drop. I have to say that restricting the amount of skills you can have to 6 is both annoying as hell and awesome. While I want to use everything, this does make you think a little more and actually tailor your build to something that suits your playstyle more.
Gargantuan, Fire Bomb and Locust Swarm are all around the corner and will hopefully get unlocked this evening. Again it’s a struggle to see what I’m going to drop to take them, but they’ll most definitely get put on the action bars at some stage.
So far this game is easily exceeding my expectations, and I can’t wait to get through the normal game and start on the alts and public games.
I do like Soul Harvest, and try to cast it once I have more than a couple of mobs in range of me, as the damage increase is very noticeablek
Managed to get on and play D3 again last night for about 1.5 hours or so. Stuck with the Witch Doctor (thought about starting my first ALT but was enjoying the WD so much I stayed with him) and got through the Skeleton King and onto the next part of the story line. To be honest I’m not sure where I finished the night quest wise, but just before I logged off I hit level 13 but didn’t get chance to give the new abilities a play.
I was mainly sticking with Corpse Spiders/Grasp of the Dead/Poison Dart for most of the damage, and Soul Harvest when I was surrounded. I did swap in Firebats for a bit but preferred the utility of Grasp of the Dead.
I’m going to switch it up a bit tonight and try out Dogs\Firebats\Toads\Haunt to see how I get on, especially as I’ve not really been overwhelmed by mobs that many times yet.
So it’s been almost 18 months since my last post, and that’s been spent with no WoW.
I was pretty much fed up with WoW before hitting 85 to be honest, and once I got to 85 I thought I would enjoy the end game but it wasn’t to be. I simply couldn’t be arsed to play it, I had no inclination to level another alt, or explore the new areas so I cancelled my account.
Now Diablo 3 is here though I’m back playing a Blizz game and with some luck will hook up with some old friends from WoW and get back to having fun.
Playing as a Witch Doctor to start with, going to get through normal with him (prob solo) and then start on a Monk and use him for grouping with friends/randoms.
Had just over an hour playing him last night and think I logged off in the Cathedral at around half way through level 8.
I had played the open beta and got a couple of characters to around level 5 so I knew where I was going for the first 45mins and didn’t bother with the quest lore etc. That’s now changed and I’ve found myself paying more attention to the quest text etc as I don’t want to just blast through it all (group runs will be a lot faster with no time to stop and listen\read the lore so I don’t want to miss it all).
I haven’t really done anything regarding planning out skills/builds etc, the WD will be purely played for fun and I’m not going to be interested in Min\Max ing (at least to start with).

Ran Lost City of the Tol’Vir last night and once the shitty DK tank dropped group after a death on the second pull we sailed through with ZERO DEATHS!!
I was almost ready to call it after that first shitty pull, when after Zoning in and switching to Resto Spec the DK pulls the first group of Tigers. I managed to pop a potion, drop mana tide and barely got through the fight. After finishing on zero mana, with the tank at about 15% I sat and drank. What’s the tank do? Pulls the next pack of mobs once I get full mana and run to catch up with the group. Fucktard then calls me out about it, and drops group when I ask him why he pulled with 25% health. I was super pissed off as it’s not the best way to start a run, and if any of the group had sided with him I’d have just afk’d and waited for them to kick me. As it was everyone else though the tank was a tard and we got a cracking Druid tank right away and proceeded to rinse the instance with zero trouble. The rogue had a habit of dropping to 50% health a lot, and lol’ing when he pulled another pack but we got through.
I managed to snag a couple of iLevel 333 upgrades as well which was nice.
We also had a guild run to Naxx to do a raid q for a quick 100 odd Justice Points which will help out on the way to grabbing another piece of gear in the next week or two. I’m totally in no rush to start on Heroics to be honest, I want to get comfortable with all the new instances before worrying about that.
I finally made the switch and dropped Mining on Gerutwo for Alchemy. I Power levelled it to 409 last night, and reckon I can cap it either tonight or tomorrow (depending on what herbs are on the AH and/or if I can be arsed to farm for what I need). I’m actually looking forward to having some pots and flasks for use (which with the bonus from the trinket will actually make me want to use them)
I actually managed to do the daily fishing and cooking quests as well which made a change. I really want to try to do these with some regularity so that I can get them both capped (although with the change to fishing meaning you can fish pools regardless of level) this is not so much a priority. Cooking on the other hand is something I really want to get capped, as while I’m selling the raw mats for a shocking amount of gold, I’m sure the prepared foodstuff would sell better (and help me out with some really nice buffs). I also need to get my finger out and make a start on Archeology, as having my Dorf on a Skeletal Raptor would be awesome.
I didn’t bother logging on the DK or the Warrior, but the Warrior is going to get his rested XP burned through before the end of the weekend though (hopefully) as I’m keen to start getting him into his 20’s. The DK is sitting in Zangarmarsh with 15 quests left to complete (which I actually think I’ll do before heading to Terrokar Forest)

So I hit 85 on Boxing Day, and since then have run a few Dungeons through LFD while clearing some quests in the area’s I’ve yet to complete for Rep etc. These have been mainly in a Healing role as I haven’t enough time to wait 45 mins for a group and I’ve found myself leaving about 50% after 2 or 3 pulls (or wipes as is often the case).
While I’m now sitting at 92k/72k HP/Mana it’s not enough to overcome those players who don’t understand kill orders/cc requirements etc. As almost every blogger has stated, WotLK this is not. Profession wise I’ve not had chance to switch Gerutwo to Alchemy yet, but I’ve got about all the Herbs I need banked. I just need to find a spare couple of hours to do it. I’d like to have an evening of purely farming ore first to get some stacks stockpiled but the reality is that I probably can’t be arsed. I’ve kinda forgotten about Gerutwo as I’ve been playing the DK pretty exclusively (which is a shame as I really wanted to knock out the rest of the quests in the new zones with Gerutwo to get my rep up with the various factions and bank some more gold).
I have managed to get my DK up level 64 now, and he34’s currently about 2/3 of the way through Zangarmarsh. I got pretty bored with HFP even though it’s the first time I’ve been through outland as Alliance. I’m still not sure what Prof’s I’m going for though once he’s through Northrend. At the moment I’m still thinking JC\(dis)Enchanting. I’m not going to switch earlier as the XP gains from gathering are too nice to pass up (about 1k xp per node on level appropriate herbs\ore). I’ve not tanked anything with him yet, and that’s on my list of things to do this week. I might try solo’ing a few low level instances first in order to get the hang of the rotations etc, then again I might just jump in and see how it goes. I’m sure if I sign up for Ramparts or Blood Furnace as Tank it should pop pretty fast, plus I’ll have a couple of levels on the people that are in there which will give me a headstart on survivability/damage/threat (with luck).
I really want to give the Warrior some playtime in the next week, even if it’s just to burn through the rested XP that he’s accumulated and do some mining\herbalism while I’m at it. I also want to give tanking on him a go as well, but that can wait a few levels.

NOTE – This post was somehow not posted and I found it in my drafts. Rather than re-write etc I’ll stick it up now and then follow up with the other posts
So with 85 rapidly approaching (hit 84 in Uldum last night) it’s time to think seriously about when\what\how to switch professions. I really want to drop one and power level the other the same night so as to not be left profession less. I’d also like to switch to something that I can recoup some of the expenditure by selling what I make to level (which is probably not going to happen with Alchemy). As I’ve only got 1 toon above 60 on this server at the moment (Dkeru the Worgen DeathKnight should hit 60 in the next week or so at this rate) I will need to keep Gerutwo with a gathering profession which compliments the new profession. Herb\Alch seems the way to go, as I’m finding there’s much less competition for Herbs than there are for mining nodes. Plus once the DK is 50 the plan is to level Herb\Mining around Azeroth one evening (going to by a big herb and a big mining bag for him) and then drop Herb once I get to 300. This should help Gerutwo out on the way to 300 Alchemy, and the Ore I’ll use to level the Dkeru’s JC’ing once he’s back in Outland. He can then Mine\JC his way though Outland\Northrend and all the JC stuff I can store to disenchant with Dkeru once I think he’s got enough Ore. I may even just have him fly round Outland getting upto max mining for the area
Uldum’s about 80% done, and I’m 4 bars from hitting 85. That’s unlikely to happen this evening as I’ll be finishing up wrapping and getting everything ready for Mr Claus to visit the kids tonight and getting the house ready for the influx of family tomorrow (both sets of parents, grandparents and sister in law + boyf). If I can get on for 30 mins to get a little closer to finishing the Uldum quests then I’ll be happy.
Uldum so far has been great. I’ve picked up the following upgrades in the last two nights (there’s also some other uncommon upgrades as quest rewards but they’ll be replaced pretty quickly as I go through Twiglet Highlands
And this – which isn’t an Uldum upgrade, but I’d forgotten to grab it while in Hyjal
Lucky drop of the night was this little bad boy from a chest in Uldum. I hardly ever get a rare drop that I can use, so this was a lovely little early xmas pressie. I’m not sure if I’m going to equip it or sell it on the AH and then add some cash to the profits to get the BoE Epic BS Caster Shield (I’ll leaning towards equipping it at the moment).
The other alternative is to get Shield of the Mists with 950 Justice Points (of which I only have about 400 at the moment) after a few more instances. I like the idea of having the additional spirit, and to be honest I think I could probably make do with a green quest reward shield for a little longer. I suppose it will all depend on the value of the shield on the AH. Although I’m sitting on around 15k, if I can get enough to pay for at least some of the cost of levelling Alchemy it would not hurt matters. I could alternatively use the cash for the DK to buy flying in readiness for him hitting 60 and going to Azeroth.
This leaves me at 84.5 with the following stats which aren’t too bad. Need to hit up some more instances in the hope of getting some loot and increasing Rep with the various factions.
I also need to head back to Deepholm to get rep up with the Earthern Ring before heading on over to Twilight Highlands I reckon.
So while I posted the short term plans for my Shaman and Warrior (the two active toons on my new server) here are some more things I’ve on my to do list . . .
-
Get Guild Charter signed and buy Guild bank to store all the shit I accumulate
-
Inscription Alt - I’m going to get Inscription on my Banker and level it to 75 to see what money I can make from it (heard there’s super easy money to be made even at level 75)
-
Level Alchemy and another profession (to be decided) on Gerutwo to max
-
Buy 310% flight for Gerutwo
-
Get a Proto Drake for Gerutwo (don’t care what sort)
-
Roll a DK, get him out of the starting area and then get him Enchanting and Jewelcrafting (so he can DE the stuff that he makes JC’ing)
These plans all rely on my continual levelling\questing with Gerru for a supply of herbs\ore unless I just go and splash the cash (which I might do with Enchanting, and Alchemy in order to get Gerutwo up to speed as soon as possible). I’d like to get the DK enchanting so that he can DE anything I find and also any drops I get from low level instances I’ll be farming on him (for cloth etc). I had fun playing my other DK through Outland (and while it didn’t take long in WotLK with the reduction to XP required it should be even faster)

Headed off to Uldum last night as I wanted to find the entrance to the Vortex Pinnacle. However I got sidetracked by the quests there and found myself instead getting about 4 bars of XP. I’m currently about 2.5 bars from 84, and should get there this evening with a bit of luck.
One thing I noticed about Uldum is that the mobs are a step up from Deepholm, in that they regularly seemed to have about 50k health (as opposed to the 35k – 40k I seemed to recall them having down in Deepholm. I’m probably going to head back there before getting more into Uldum, as the main reason for going to Uldum was to explore and find the instance entrance (shown below).
Plan of action for the next couple of days
- Log on and jump straight into LFD as a healer
- Fly across Uldum to grab the entrance for Vortex Pinnacle
- Work out how to get to Deepholm as Alliance and then head there to pick up where I left off on the Horde side
- Hit 84
- Start a DeathKnight (probably a Dorf or Draeni) and try to power through the starting area (done it a few times now so it shouldn’t be too much trouble to bang that out in a couple of hours).
